12. Don Mattrick Speaks Down On Xbox Fans

Xbox One
Microsoft

There wasn't a single person who felt the failure of the Xbox One reveal more than Don Mattrick did, then-President of Interactive Entertainment at Microsoft.

Essentially, he was in charge of the Xbox division. After the very lacklustre reveal and backlash from fans about the need for the console to be always online, Mattrick had something to say to the fans in an interview with Geoff Keighley at E3 - and holy bat-nipples did it backfire.

Mattrick would say "fortunately, we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity, it's called Xbox 360." Not the best way to sell your new hardware...

Not only did he talk down on the fan criticism of an always online console, he talked down on backwards compatibility, saying "If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards." Two months later, Mattrick was out of Microsoft, moving to Zynga as CEO which presumably came from his stumble with the Xbox One reveal and subsequent comments.
