20 Most Jaw-Dropping Games of 2012

6. Hotline Miami

Hotline-Miami Hotline is, along with Spec Ops: The Line, one of the most unnerving games released this year. An action-adventure where each level plays out like a murder-puzzle, the game provides you a rather flimsy context for why you€™re slaughtering house after house of faceless drug dealers and henchman and then sets you loose upon 80s Miami. Hotline gorgeously renders the disgusting, gory events of your mysterious odyssey in colorful 8-bit graphics that will leave you astounded and a little stick to your stomach. The game draws attention to our willingness to (virtually) kill for the simplest reasons while making it incredibly fun and challenging to perform said killings. Perhaps in that aspect, Hotline is trying to have its cake and eat it at the same time. Regardless, Hotline Miami is not an experience that should be passed up by anyone with a strong stomach and fondness for games that mess with the player's head.
