Few games this generation have proven more controversial than No Man's Sky, the hugely anticipated sci-fi survival game from Hello Games, which upon launch failed to live up to the immense promises director Sean Murray had laid out before release.

Despite enormous fan disdain and Hello Games making matters worse by refusing to comment much on the response, the game enjoyed a major turnaround in 2018 with the release of the Next patch, which significantly overhauled the central gameplay with a number of the features expected at launch.

In the two-plus years since, Hello has continued to update the game with VR support and further additions to the core experience, ensuring it's enjoyed perhaps the most comprehensive redemption story in the history of modern video games.

And with a patch due to re-work the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X, the best might very well be yet to come.
