20 PS2 Games That Need A Modern Remake
1. Ico (2001)
Created by Fumito Ueda, Ico is regarded as being one of the best games to have ever released on the PS2. Unlike Ueda's other influential works, The Shadow Of The Colossus and The Last Guardian, Ico hasn't received a modern remake.
Released in 2001, Ico sees a young, horned boy imprisoned in a castle. There, he meets a young girl named Yorda, and together they attempt to make their escape. As players take Yorda by the hand to guide her through the foreboding castle, they solve puzzles while defending their companion from shadowy creatures.
Although Ico is essentially one giant escort mission, Ueda achieved something truly remarkable. Not only is the art style constantly breathtaking, but the gameplay was instrumental in telling the story. As players continued to help Yorda, their connection to the characters' relationship only grew stronger, leading to a poignant conclusion.
Although Ico was a commercial failure, its influence is felt throughout modern games, with it being cited as an inspiration for The Last Of Us, Dark Souls, and Journey.
With a PS3 HD remaster being the last time Ico was released, this masterpiece risks becoming inaccessible to a new generation of players without a modern remake.
