20 PS2 Games That Need A Modern Remake
18. Black (2006)
A year before Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare changed first-person shooters forever, Criterion Games (the developers behind the Burnout series) created their own ambitious genre entry with Black.
Coming at the tail-end of the PS2's lifecycle, this title saw players step into the boots of US special-ops soldier Jack Kellar. Featuring highly detailed gun models and immersive sound design, Black aimed to be as cinematic as possible.
More impressive than this game's visual fidelity was its destructible environments. Surfaces would gradually get chipped away as the bullets flew and dust and smoke would fill hallways and obscure vision. Black was a tremendous technical feat for its time and earned plenty of praise for its accomplishments from critics upon release.
Despite being a commercial success, an oversaturation of shooters and the developer's ongoing work on Burnout: Paradise meant that a planned sequel would never materialise.
A modern remake could revitalise this series' untapped potential. Not only would it look spectacular on modern hardware, but it would be an opportunity to flesh out the bare-bones narrative and add the missing multiplayer component, giving players the definitive version of a shooter that doesn't receive enough recognition.
