Released on the Dreamcast in 2001 before arriving on the PS2 in the following year, Headhunter blended the in-depth action of Metal Gear with the razor-sharp satire of a Paul Verhoeven film. The result is a forgotten classic that has slipped under the radar of most players.

Playing as elite bounty hunter Jack Wade, Headhunter begins with the hero waking up in hospital with amnesia after escaping an underground facility. To uncover the truth about what happened to him, he re-enlists with his former employer but is forced to work his way back up from the bottom.

Each level combines taut stealth with third-person action as players infiltrate various locations in search of bounties or clues to further Jack's investigation. Players travel between each mission via motorbike, with the dystopian Los Angeles acting as an atmospheric backdrop to the unfolding plot.

The near-future setting, where organ harvesting is just as widespread as corruption, is fleshed out through satirical FMV news reports and propaganda posters displayed during loading screens. Everything is driven forward by a phenomenal score from industry veteran Richard Jacques to create an engrossing cinematic experience.

With its ambitious gameplay and enthralling plot, Headhunter is more than worthy of a modern remake.
