Set within the claustrophobic confines of Leafmore High School and blending teen screams with survival horror, 2004's ObsCure sees players take control of a group of friends as they search for their missing companion. As they solve puzzles and encounter the nightmarish monsters that have overrun the building, they gradually piece together the cause of the terror.

Complete with fixed camera angles and a focus on inventory management, ObsCure takes a lot of inspiration from genre classics like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. However, the developers at HydraVision added a clever twist that required players to weaken enemies with light before they could be damaged, similar to what Remedy would do with Alan Wake over half a decade later.

More interesting was this game's focus on co-op. Two players could team up to survive the school's many horrors together, with each of the five playable characters having their own unique abilities. However, if a student died, a permadeath mechanic meant they were gone for good.

With its mixture of tense co-op survival horror and teen slasher delights, there's enough fascinating aspects about ObsCure that makes it more than worthy of being the next horror game to get the full remake treatment.
