20 Reasons The Year's Biggest Video Games Might Suck

17. Project CARS Is Another Forgettable Racing Sim

Release Date: Mid-May The Hype: Promoted as the next big thing in "serious" racing simulation, Project CARS aims to capture the thrill of various types of motorsports with a focus on freedom, not locking tracks and cars behind arbitrary obstacles, but giving players access to everything right out of the box. Obviously, the graphics look absolutely incredible, and if it succeeds, it could very well dethrone the wobbly Gran Turismo franchise of its claim to the crown. Why It Might Suck: It's tough for games to distinguish themselves in the racing genre, and though there haven't exactly been a lot of great racers recently, it's still not enough for a game to look nice to become a sales juggernaut and critical success. Simulation games also run the risk of being dull and mechanical for all but the most ardent motor enthusiasts, so if Slightly Mad Studios wants real success, they need to ensure it's a fun experience as well as a realistic one. Otherwise, it could just become a dull slog after more than an hour or two of play.
