20 Severely Underrated Video Games From The 2000s

2. The Warriors

Rockstar's never been afraid to experiment, and their vast catalog of hits ranges from Westerns and hard-boiled crime, to high-school sims and straight-up horror. The studio also proved that "licensed game" doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing with 2005's The Warriors, adapted from the film of the same name. Embracing the campiness of the film with open arms, Rockstar adopted the beat-em-up sensibilities of old school games - such as Double Dragon and Renegade - and sprinkled in an assortment of sprawling environments spanning across the various boroughs of New York. Combat was fast-paced, and brutal as all hell - smashing a bottle across a dude's head REALLY felt like you just fractured some poor guy's skull; and as you hopped between the various Warriors, you really got a good sense of each character's strengths and weaknesses. If you were a fan of the film, few things were cooler than roaming the Warriors' stomping grounds in Coney Island. And in addition to the authentically recreated environments, the game's score went a long way toward capturing the gritty feel of the 70s setting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFcc9m5xCWM
