The Prince Of Persia series experienced a resurgence back in 2003 with Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time which ushered in a new era of platformer which mixed the genre's traditional elements with some weighty combat mechanics and truly inventive puzzles. The Sands Of Time would be followed by two sequels - Warrior Within and The Two Thrones - before Ubisoft decided that it was time to throw a whole new coat of paint on the franchise and reboot the series. And despite cutting all ties with previous games - such as introducing an entirely new protagonist and nixing the time-travel elements altogether - the 2008 version did a wonderful job of retaining everything that made the series so memorable while moving the franchise forward in a new direction. Players were given a sprawling, vibrant world to play around in, and the addition of a partner in the form of Elika - who's magical powers were utilized in a series of inventive platforming segments - introduced a brand new dynamic to gameplay. Combat received a face-lift as well, with one-on-one duels supplanting the free-for-all battles of previous games. All in all, the 2008 reboot was a fantastic re-imagining of a beloved series, and while the critical consensus was largely positive, the new direction apparently failed to catch on with audiences as there hasn't been a peep about a new Prince Of Persia for years.
