20 Things You Didn't Know About Rocket League

14. It Was Originally Pitched To EA

Before Rocket League's development kicked off in earnest in 2013, Psyonix did prototype a number of prospective iterations, and this led to them pitching a version of what would become the final game to Electronic Arts in 2011.

At the time, EA were under intense scrutiny for some of their more dubious business practises, resulting in the company winning the Worst Company in America award from Consumerist in both 2012 and 2013.

EA passed on Rocket League in 2011, which may have seemed like a blow at the time, yet in the grand scheme of things it was clearly the best thing that could've happened.

Rather than being subject to EA's relentlessly greedy ways forever more, the game was able to flourish as an independent title, free from shareholder hand-wringing while still turning a colossal profit. A best case scenario, basically.
