20 Upcoming Video Games That Might Surprise You
13. Horizon Hunters Gathering
Many eyebrows were raised when Horizon Hunters Gathering was announced, because while it totally makes sense to exploit the Horizon IP with a Monster Hunter-esque co-op spin-off, the execution left many asking, "Who asked for this?"
The cartoonish, sub-Fortnite art style was especially criticised by fans who wanted a game consistent with the original's more grounded post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
Others felt that the game simply looked like a generic attempt to cash-in on popular trends rather than meaningfully grow out the franchise, further unaided by it being one of Sony's many live-service projects - most of which to date have been colossal failures, if even released at all.
And while many would understandably prefer Guerrilla Games to just crack on with the third mainline Horizon game, isn't it possible that there's actually something to this?
After all, would Guerrilla of all studios really take it upon themselves to waste years on a half-baked spin-off rather than farm it out to another studio? Don't be too shocked if Horizon Hunters Gathering is, against all odds, actually very very good.
