20 Video Game NPCs You CAN'T Afford To Lose
1. Isobel - Baldur's Gate 3
Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3 is considered to be the best part of the story. It mixes the desperation of surviving the shadow curse with the intrigue of infiltrating two rival factions.
Or it can be just moments of desperation if you happen to lose Isobel.
Isobel is the cleric of Selune that shields the Harpers from the shadow curse inside the Last Light Inn. Isobel is important not only because she is secretly the daughter of Absolute's Chosen Ketheric Thorm, but also because her survival determines the survival of the entire Harpers faction.
If Isobel is ever killed or kidnapped by her father's forces, her protection over the Last Light Inn disappears, and all the people inside immediately turn into undead abominations, effectively cutting out huge chunks of the story and killing off dozens of important NPCs.
Even on an evil playthrough, you should try to keep Isobel alive for as long as you can, although it's easier said than done, considering the Absolute tries to kidnap her the moment you come to visit her, and if you play as the Dark Urge, you get a quest to take her life.
The girl has a death sentence on her head, even though an entire faction relies on her for survival.
