20 Video Game Secret Areas You Only Have ONE Chance To Discover

Dishonored is an immersive sim with plenty of special interactions and hidden secrets. Some of these secrets require you to do certain things in earlier levels to unlock them, but if you forgot to do them, you can always just reload the chapter and try again.

The only exception is the special Easter egg hidden at the start of the game, as if you forget to find it then, you won’t see its consequences later on, and coming back to it is equivalent to starting the whole game over.

The intro to Dishonored takes place in the palace gardens of Empress Jessamine. The game expects you to head straight towards the Empress herself to begin the game’s story, but if you walk around, you can find a hidden area where the royal inventor Sokolov is painting a portrait of High Overseer Campbell.

The area looks like a background scene, but you can actually interact with the people there, and if you take away the decanter next to the Overseer, something interesting will happen.

Later in the story, while on a mission to assassinate Campbell, you can find Skolov’s painting in his headquarters. If you took the decanter in the intro, the item will actually be missing from the painting, even though it’s normally there.

You only have one chance to mess with the painting. If you don’t, you have to restart the game to see this change.
