20 Video Game Sequels NOBODY Defends
1. Bomberman: Act Zero (2006)
When looking through the line-up of games in the Bomberman series, most of them will blend in with one another. You'll see bright colours, cute visuals, a charming central mascot, and an overall sense of joyfulness. But, at one specific point in the series, you'll reach Bomberman: Act Zero and receive instant whiplash from the intense shift in tone.
What is Act Zero? Well, it was Bomberman's attempt at a gritty reboot, and, oh boy, it was an embarrassment.
This game took the cartoony character and turned him into a dark, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic hero, clearly attempting to reinvent the character for a new generation. Naturally, this went down like a lead balloon, as long-term fans were shocked by the shift.
Playing the game was also a nightmare, as the AI was entirely unbalanced, the level design was drab and repetitive, the loading times stretched on far too long, and plenty more. But the biggest fumble was the multiplayer, a staple of the Bomberman series, as Act Zero did away with local co-op in favour of online play. However, the game's First-Person Battle Mode was ruined by its terrible camera that made it hard to do anything, and wasn't even in first-person, meaning even its namesake was a joke.
