16. Captain Toth - Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (2002)

Star Wars has had its ups and downs over the years in gaming, and while titles like the original and new Battlefronts, and the Knights of the Old Republic hold a safe and permanent legacy, there are many gems that have been forgotten along the way.

Enter Jedi Starfighter, the sequel to the Starfighter game, which embraced the funky new ship Attack of the Clones gifted us, and allowed us to become a true Jedi pilot as Adi Gallia. Set around the time of the Battle of Geonosis, we are tasked with taking on the growing Separatist movement and preventing them from mobilising and utilising the deadly chemical weapon Hex missiles, created by Captain Toth, a mercenary military leader cast from the same mould as the future Empire commanders. And what a piece of work he is.

Leading his Sabaoth Squadron, Toth tests his weapons on civilians and slaughters indiscriminately. This may be par for the course in Star Wars, but his motivations are not. Swayed not by power, the Force or other more meaningful concerns, Toth is a pure mercenary, inflicting pain and misery for the promise of money alone. Add to this that his ship is hell to fight against on the battlefield (or, uhh, in the battle-skies?), and the sweet relief of finally landing that killing shot and seeing him spin to his doom is unparalleled in pretty much any vehicle-based game.
