20 Video Games That Defined 20 Years Of PlayStation

20. Ridge Racer

Ridge Racer has a long history with the PlayStation that dates way back to the launch of the PS1. Ridge Racer 1 was a key title that ended up being technical showcase for the new system by pulling off cutting-edge visuals (for their time, anyway) that ran at a framerate so smooth you could use it to butter toast. After Ridge Racer V launched alongside the PS2, the arcade racing franchise became synonymous with the launch of new PlayStations. Namco continued this tradition with the PS3 by releasing Ridge Racer 7 - one of the few games to achieve shiny 1080p visuals on the system at launch. In what's truly the end of an era, a Ridge Racer title did not launch alongside the PS4. The popularity of the series has waned in recent years, with it now being more inclined to make an appearance on handhelds and phones than consoles.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
