20 Video Games That Are About To Make A HUGE Comeback
3. Okami 2
Despite the fact Okami is considered a masterpiece, it's not a surprise it didn't do well. The watercolour-styled game incorporates Shinto mythology, paintbrush mechanics, and centres around a godlike wolf. Basically, it was impossible to market. Branded as a flop, a direct sequel was taken off the table (though it spawned a prequel for the Nintendo DS called Okamiden).
Luckily, word-of-mouth helped Okami be ported to numerous consoles, allowing a new generation to bask in its glory. Having said that, it would've been wonderful to see it blossom into a franchise.
Fortunately, miracles do happen. Although rumours have circulated over a sequel for years, Okami 2 was officially announced in 2024. At this point, next to nothing is known about the project, including the release date or what systems it'll be available on.
But based on the teaser, it appears the protagonist, Amaterasu, the signature brush‐paint‐style, and the mythological Japanese motifs are still present. And with the original director, Hideki Kamiya, leading the charge, Okami 2 should be everything we could've hoped for, which should more than make up for the first instalment's initial failure.
