20 Video Games That Mock You For Failing The Tutorial
16. Coward Ending - The Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable is an interactive story experience based on a Half-Life 2 mod. You play as the titular Stanley and walk around a huge office building as a mysterious narrator reacts to the choices you make along the way.
The game doesn’t feature a proper tutorial, since the gameplay consists of just walking around. However, to start the proper game, you have to make it past your first introductory challenge—walking out of Stanley’s office.
Yes, the very first thing that sets off Stanley’s adventure through the compound is simply walking out of a room. However, since this is a game about defying even the most basic of expectations, you can choose to remain inside and fail this very easy objective.
This choice (or lack thereof really) will cause the narrator to start urging you to walk outside and then mocking you for being too scared to see the world.
If you ignore him and stay still, the game will eventually trigger a special ending, called the “Coward Ending,” making fun of you for being unable to make even a single choice in the game.
All you had to do was walk through a door, so this one is pretty deserved.
