20 Video Games That Will Make 2013 An Awesome Year For Gamers

8. The Witness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN4q2dtxkHk There hasn't been much information released to the general public about The Witness, the upcoming project from indie developer Jonathan Blow. It is known that the game is a first-person puzzler that takes place on an uninhabited island, and that players will have to solve a series of maze-like puzzles that slowly incorporate additional mechanics as they become ever more complex. While the player moves through the island, they will at same time be slowly learning the island's story and about why they are there. The game is releasing on PC sometime in 2013, as well as on iOS devices. Why it will be awesome: Despite the lack of information we have about The Witness, the fact that Jonathan Blow's name is attached to it makes it one of the titles to watch in 2013. In 2008, his game Braid dropped an unexpected bomb on the gaming world and played a huge part in launching the indie game movement that has become such a significant and important part of modern gaming culture. Braid at first appeared to be nothing more than a puzzle platformer with cool art and music, but had so much more below the surface to be discovered, as those who played the game know very well. It was a challenging, brilliant, haunting game, and gave Jonathan Blow his well-earned reputation in the gaming industry. The Witness appears on the surface to be not much more than a first person puzzle maze game, but it's safe to say the game will be much more than that for anyone who decides to take the journey. Like Braid before it, The Witness may very well expand the language of video games, and it is going to be very exciting to see how the game turns out once it's released. Be prepared to have your mind blown, just in case.
