20 Video Games That Will Make 2013 An Awesome Year For Gamers

7. Puppeteer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GECUR5Wgyc Sony surprised a lot of folks at this year's Gamescom by announcing a slew of new games based on new IP (intellectual property) to be released in 2013, and perhaps the most interesting project they announced was Puppeteer. A side scrolling platformer with a striking art style, the game is being developed by Sony's Japan Studio, one of their top in-house game development studios, and is set for release on the PS3. Why it will be awesome: Outside of Nintendo platforms, side scrolling 2D platformers were becoming scarse before their recent renaissance on digital platforms such as XBLA, PSN and Steam. Seeing this as a still-viable genre, non-Nintendo publishers have released games of this genre at retail, such as LittleBigPlanet and Rayman: Origins, to much critical and commercial success, and Puppeteer could be the next in line. The entire game takes place on a single stage in an auditorium, with the characters and settings constantly being manipulated and transformed as they would in a puppet stage show, resulting in a fantastical backdrop that really is only limited by the imagination of the game makers. And speaking of this, the game is being directed by Gavin Moore, an animator who has worked on Sony games for quite some time, and who originally began working on this game for the purpose of stimulating and entertaining the mind of his young son. If you own a PS3, watch for this one, as it could very well get lost in 2013's swollen lineup of bigger retail releases, even if it doesn't deserve to.
