21 Gaming Memories Only 90s Kids Will Have

20. Finding The Mario 64 Secret Slide

Every Super Mario game is filled with hidden areas, and one of the most famous and joyful of these was a slide found behind one of four stained-glass windows in an otherwise unremarkable side-room in Super Mario 64. The fact that kids all over the world were finding this incredibly inconspicuous secret is a testament to the sense of wonder Mario games instilled in us all €“ every nook and cranny was a possible new discovery.

Mario 64 hides plenty of other tasty little hidden areas, like the flying cap world you could find by looking up into the light in the main room of the castle, but the slide was the best secret of all, and the sheer genius of its hiding place made it fun to take a trip down that twisting, turning track over and over again.

19. Going Bonkers With Cheats In Grand Theft Auto 3

GTA 3 was one of the finest examples of an open-world 3D game. It offered us story missions and side missions aplenty, but often the most fun was had simply roaming the streets and seeing what trouble you could get into. This brand of fun was made even sweeter when you started punching in those cheatcodes.

Finding that pistol a little bit mundane? Get the 'all weapons' cheat on the go and you'll be throwing rockets around like confetti. Beautiful, exploding confetti. Are you ashamed of that set of wheels you're driving and need something a little more stylish? Pop the tank cheatcode in and roll around with the windows down and your cannon at the ready. A beautiful, exploding cannon. Allocating fifteen minutes after every play session to going a little crazy with these super fun cheats was gaming bliss.
