21 Gaming Memories Only 90s Kids Will Have

14. The Mystery Of Missingno In Pokemon Red And Blue

One of the greatest strengths the Pokemon series has is that it truly encapsulates the spirit of wonder and discovery. When the original Red and Blue games released, every new encounter could be an exciting new monster to fight, capture and cherish. Unless it was an Oddish. Nothing caused more wonder and curiosity, however, than the mystery of the super-secret Pokemon, Missingno.

It was found in a very particular spot of the game, and turned out to be a little less magical than we first thought. Missingno was an "error handler" in the games, and running into it was essentially a glitch, as it was meant to be hidden data. Catching the Pokemon could lead to graphical errors and all sorts of save file corruption issues. Probably best left alone after all, then.

Gotta catch €˜em all! (mostly€)

13. The Castle Flipping Upside-down In Symphony Of The Night

Symphony of the Night was an all-round delight that took the Metroid mould and turned it into something truly magnificent.

One of the most memorable moments of the game is when it takes a mind-bending turn at the end, provided you've done a couple of special steps, and flips Dracula€™s castle, asking you to re-explore its many courtyards and corridors in a whole new perspective. This essentially doubled the length of this already fairly robust game and was a magnificent move from Konami, providing one of the most pleasant surprises in videogames to this day.

So...an excuse to listen to that kick-ass soundtrack for another bunch of hours while whipping your way through Dracula's castle upside down? Absolutely, yes sir!
