18. Jack (Bioshock)

Even more so than the rest of us, Jack from Bioshock is a product of circumstances beyond his control. Genetically engineered and conditioned as a tool for Frank Fontaine, Jack is a puppet who can't see the strings for a majority of his time in Rapture.

It's an existential crisis none of us could even possibly comprehend. And yet, Jack still takes some control over his life in the form of the Little Sisters. Should he spare them, they become his salvation, saving him from death at the hands of Fontaine. Together Jack and the Little Sisters escape Rapture and make it to the surface.

Jack essentially becomes their father, raising them as his daughters until dying of old age. Despite a manufactured life, Jack's good deeds freed him while simultaneously saving the lives of innocent and abused children. Against the odds, Jack became a true hero, especially in the eyes of the Little Sisters.
