30 Greatest RPG Video Games Of All Time

21. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut

It had been eleven years since the release of the genre-defining Deux Ex, and most people believed Human Revolution would never be able to live up to the game many consider one of the best of all time. The orginal's sequel, Invisible War, was regarded as good, but certainly not in the same class as Deus Ex, would this be the same? In a word, no.

Amazingly, Eidos Montreal had made a game that was the equal to the 2000 release, even surpassing it in some ways. Where Human Revolution excels is in the number of ways it gives you to play. You can go around murdering absolutely everyone, like a psychotic Rambo, or you can just be all about stealth. It's also one of the most immersive games ever made, with a fantastic, cyberpunk story that raises many theological questions about what makes us human.

Add to this the game's multiple endings and the fact the director's cut alters the way you can approach those notorious boss battles, and you have a game worthy of the Deus Ex name.
