20. Final Fantasy VII

For a lot of gamers this was their first introduction to the world of Japanese role-playing games, and it's generally agreed that it was FF VII that popularised JRPGs outside of their usual market. This was the first Final Fantasy to use 3D graphics and the first game in the main series to be released in Europe. Westerners adored VII's gameplay, story and RPG elements.

Most people who got their first introduction to Final Fantasy with this entry became huge fans of the games, going on play each subsequent release.

Not only is famed for being one of the best RPGs ever, but it also contains what is considered one of the most emotional death scenes in video game history.
