5 Brilliant Directors Who Should Helm Video Game Adaptations
Have you ever wondered what would happen if your favourite film director was hired to adapt your favourite video game to the big screen? Maybe you would like to see Peter Jackson's vision of Tomb Raider or Steven Spielberg's take on Halo? As gaming grows in popularity, Hollywood is beginning to take notice in a way it hasn't really before. The days of cashing in on well known game franchises are slowly coming to a halt as game developers can now compete with most summer blockbusters. To put things into perspective, Black Ops 2 made more money in a weekend than The Dark Knight Rises made in its entire run in theatres. The sales for the franchise are now higher than the worldwide box office earnings for Harry Potter and Star Wars. With figures like that, it's no wonder producers are taking an interest. In an ideal world, good movie adaptations would be commonplace but unfortunately that's not the case. Dreadful efforts such as Prince of Persia and Doom have threatened to derail future projects while others like Paul W. S. Anderson's Resident Evil series are borderline blasphemous. The upcoming Assassin's Creed movie is a step in the right direction bit it's not enough. Hollywood either needs to ignore gaming or embrace it fully. Quite simply, if video game adaptations are to succeed, world class directors need to take the reins and be given creative freedom within a world that already exits to millions of fans. Here are 5 franchises that deserve the big screen treatment and five directors that would make awesome adaptations.
