5 Inexpensive Shoot ‘Em Ups Worth Downloading
1. The Metal Slug Series
The Metal Slug Series adorned arcades alike in the 1990s and early 2000s with its smaller than average arcade cabinet displaying the Neo-Geo logo on the front. The first game itself presented a different breed of shoot ‘em up as it goes with an army-of-one human protagonist set against a suspiciously familiar enemy reminiscent of that in World War II, as opposed to the common fighter pilot trope that accompanies the shoot ‘em up genre.
Subsequent games pitted the player against the likes of aliens and other forces bent on world domination. What makes ‘Metal Slug’ so satisfying however, is the mother-unapproved graphic depictions and animations of death caused by the many different weapons and vehicles the player can use. There is a nostalgic feel associated with the ‘Metal Slug’ series. Something came together at Neo-Geo and they piped out a game that aged like a fine wine.
Nowadays, the Metal Slug Series consists of 7 different games, all of which consist of 6 or 7 challenging but satisfying levels, allowing for hours of gameplay and scenery changes.
