5 Tips To Maintain A Healthy Relationship If You're A Hardcore Gamer

4. Find Some 'Me' Time

Avid gamers normally play after work or during the weekends to unwind, but with our life partner around, it's rather hard to focus on that game you've been meaning to finish. Imagine you're playing Metal Gear Solid and a half-hour long cutscene started to play. Since you're not directly controlling any characters, the wife decided it is good timing to talk about groceries or family matters. Do you skip the cutscene or stop her from talking? Either way you lose. We will definitely need some "me" time to totally immerse ourselves in a particular game. If you have a spouse out working or studying during the day, apply a dedicated annual leave just for gaming. Once she leaves home, put on your headsets or speakers set to full blast and proceed to play without distractions. At least until she comes back. On the extreme end, you can come up with a valid excuse and send her to in-laws instead. Just avoid doing this too frequent or you'll end up in a bad light. Investing on handheld consoles is another alternative way to get a constant gaming fix, with the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita coming to mind. You can play whichever while commuting, during breaks at work or best of all, at the in-laws. A more romantic gesture is to play these handheld games while resting on your wife's lap.
