5 Tips To Maintain A Healthy Relationship If You're A Hardcore Gamer

5. Play In Moderation

Being responsible adults, I'm sure we all have personal and professional commitments to juggle with daily. But that doesn't mean we should stop playing video games. If you're really passionate about it, limit yourself to maybe one or two hours of gaming per day. We don't have the luxury to play all day like in college anymore so self-discipline is very important in this one. Pick a game that doesn't require you to get too involved, with frequent checkpoints and saves combined with the ability to pause at any given moment. These are a blessing in case you need to stop abruptly. Try to avoid time-consuming MMORPGs as it can literally sap your life away with the endless quests available. Also do away with DLCs, collectible hunting or New Game+. Play on Easy mode if you have to; you can breeze through the game and move on to another effortlessly. I understand this is hard for completionists but you will have more time for actual gameplay and progression. Another way to limit your playtime is to be really selective with your games. Only play titles you've been anticipating all year for instead of that movie-tie in you can just skip. Chances are, you can even reduce your gaming backlogs. Neglecting and not knowing your priorities will ultimately lead to marital problems. Video games might be your form of escapism from real life but if you have children to send to school, chores to do at home, assignments to finish (like this article) or maybe family events to attend, please prioritise those first. Put the controller down, the mouse aside and take a deep breath. Rationally, deep down you know family and work should come first above all. You can always go back to your gaming afterwards once you have more time on your hands. You'll feel much better concentrating on defeating that dreaded final boss without feeling guilty.
