In Among Thieves, the Serbian war criminal Lazarević was obsessed with gaining immortality, meanwhile Drake was fixated with beating him.

During Drake's Deception, Nate was again scolded by his confidants, being repeatedly lectured about his obsession to uncover Iram of the Pillars being a death-wish.

A Thief's End, however, further accentuated the dangers of the obsession both players and Drake had suffered from previously. Decaying notes left behind by the pirates who sought out Avery's treasure, plus the imprudent behaviour of Drake's stuck-in-the-past brother Sam, and his old adversary Rafe, exhibited that a monomania with treasure and glory would eventually have grim consequences.

Nate nearly lost his wife Elena, and Sam was ready to abandon his new-found family. Alongside death, these were the dangers Naughty Dog warned about.

Moreover, Naughty Dog simultaneously advised players against wanting more adventures because, whilst the developers enjoy the thrill also, there is a time to quit and appreciate what you already have.

Sam, with a gluttonous grin, pleaded with Nate, Sully and Elena to help steal Avery's treasure before Rafe. Although Sam was intended to represent the player's craving for more Uncharted, the roles have since been interchanged. Naughty Dog is now Sam, and Uncharted's devotees now need to be the advisors.
