6 Horror Gaming Soundtracks That Will Make You Shiver

2. Castlevania

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1BKsUTIBdE If we have to choose just one soundtrack from the beloved Castlevania series, we're going with the one that is arguably one of the greatest soundtracks ever composed for a game. Michiru Yamane had done work on Suikoden before Konami tasked her with creating the music for the first game to appear on the Playstation. Seamlessly blending pieces of classical, heavy metal, jazz and choral music, along with a vocal finale done by Cynthia Harrell, Yamane created what can only be described as the standard for music in a Castlevania game. So amazing were her compositions that she continued to work on the series all the way through the next iterations on the Playstation 2 and XBox as well as Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS before the series was rebooted in 2010. The piece I chose for this list is "Heavenly Doorway," one of the final melodies you will hear before you encounter the man you've been chasing as Alucard for the duration of the game. The imposing cello paints a picture of a looming entrance, and you get the sensation that just up the broken staircase is going to be the biggest fight of your life. The other string instruments begin to stimulate the hairs on your neck, and with great resolve the percussion kicks in as you make your way into the lair of your enemy.
