7 Dead Video Game Franchises That Need A God Of War-Style Reboots
3. Castlevania
One of the biggest travesties in modern gaming is that Castlevania is a sidelined franchise. Whether you are a fan of the old school titles or the Lord Of Shadows trilogy, it's clear these games have a lot of potential to thrive in the modern gaming space.
For one, a big part of what makes Castlevania so unique is its adoption of the Metroidvania layout - a type of open-world map that God Of War almost directly parallels through its contained environments that require items you acquire later in the game to fully explore.
It's a perfect fit for traditional Castlevania, and combining it with new, hard-hitting combat could make for a modernised lens on the franchise that retains the game's roots whilst encroaching on new territory for the series.
But it's perhaps Castlevania's story that stands the most to gain from following the God Of War template. The franchise's world is one that has the potential to be rich in lore and side content, populated by many of the monsters of classic horror movies, novels and folklore. Much like God Of War, it could provide a unique view on a host of iconic characters - a proposition that is tantalising to consider.
