3. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (Gamecube)
Last year's Metal Gear Solid Collection gave Hideo Kojima's much-loved stealth-em-up series a new high-def coat of paint; Raiden's hair had never looked sleeker, Snake Eater's jungle was lusher than ever. But the original Metal Gear Solid was mysteriously missing. By today's standards the Playstation classic looks fairly shonky, pretty unsuitable for a simple HD spit and polish. But did Konami just forget about its Gamecube re-release, The Twin Snakes? Rebuilt from the ground up using MGS2's engine, with completely re-recorded dialogue and cutscenes, it's a fine example of a game remake done right, much like Capcom's treatment of Resident Evil. But due to the Gamecube's limited audience few people actually got to play it, leaving Twin Snakes as a sort of tragically forgotten curio. As the definitive version of one of the best games of the last twenty years, it deserves better. Perhaps one day we'll get lucky, and Konami will pull their finger out and release a
complete Metal gear Solid HD collection.
