7 Main Take-Aways About Anthem From EA's E3 Conference
3. Gameplay Features
We've seen a lot of the 'Javelin' suits so far - the power armour/ jet pack/ loot backpack combo that the characters wear. They were discussed in more detail, and it turns out there are four classes - Interceptor, Storm, Colossus, and Ranger. Each will have perks and drawbacks, but if a player chooses one they can easily change at any time, so gameplay features are not locked out.
It seems that a variety of play styles are important in the game - as well as the way the suits can fly, hints in the trailer and gameplay suggest that underwater combat is a possibility. The gameplay trailer takes the characters underground with limited flying potential, meaning the way players explore battlegrounds will be an important part of combat.
A common complaint with the Mass Effect games was the fact that all levels were flat corridors with barricades included to indicate when fights would take place - Bioware have clearly taken this to heart by fundamentally altering the way they have designed the levels.
The world makes an important part of this combat - animals, of which a huge variety was shown, jump in and out of the way, and features like waterfalls help your Javelin by cooling you down or providing cover.
