2. Halo, Goodbye
Oh how this video resonates. This work of art is by Bill Schaumberg and David DiLoretto and contains more pathos, excitement, humour, and tragedy (and musical ability) than every song in the top 40 combined. From the opening pun to the Street Fighter 2 Turbo climax, this is genius, capturing the frustration of no longer being able to play games like before, and feeling slightly dirty having to settle for "hurling angry birds at piggly foes" to get your gaming fix. It evokes the joy of those days when you could play for hours on end, and the sadness when life hits you with "a shell of blue" and you now have to spend that time preparing salad instead. It's a lament for days gone by and a love song to everything we love about gaming. If you're old enough, you will recognise the pain in this song. If you're not there yet, let this serve as a warning.
Richard Revell
Richard has been playing video games since the days of the BBC Micro, (and incidentally when is Chuckie Egg going to get a reboot?) He is currently available for the post of Head of Marketing at Nintendo, seeing as no-one else seems to be doing the job. He's also a major fan of fantasy/sf books and is just waiting for his novel about an assassin who doesn't wear a hood to get picked up.
