7 Most Destructive Video Game Shotguns
2. Various - Resident Evil
The shotgun plays a pivotal role in survival horror games. No matter how pants-wettingly scary the game is, once you find the shotgun you can breathe a sigh of relief, safe in the knowledge that during the next jump scare you can give the nasty blighter a face full of buckshot.
In no game series is this more relevant than the Resident Evil franchise.
In the serie's early iterations, before the introduction of manual aiming, the player would go through the curious ritual of standing still, the shotgun tilted up at a forty-five degree angle, playing a game of chicken with the enemy till they were at the perfect distance to execute the ammo efficient headshot - often a one-shot kill.
Now that the series has moved to a first-person perspective with Resident Evil 7, the Resi shotgun feels like it hits harder than ever.
Resident Evil 7 had two shotguns available, but it was the M21 that stole the show; a pleasingly, rickety old thing you found stashed away in the corner of a room. Once it was repaired though, it hit like a truck.
Let’s hope Resident Evil 8 continues the series stellar shotgun game.
