7 Most Destructive Video Game Shotguns

1. DOOM (Super Shotgun)

DOOM’s Super Shotgun is of course the most iconic example of the weapon in video games. When we see pictures of Doom Guy (or Doom Slayer), we expect to see him in his trademark green armour and wielding his signature double-barrelled Super Shotgun. Anything less would be like Mario appearing without his red cap; it just looks wrong.

The Super Shotgun was introduced to the series in DOOM II; it was obtainable during the same level as the pump action shotgun, and once you collected both, there really was no reason to use the latter - such is the Super Shotgun’s superiority.

In DOOM (2016) the fan favourite weapon returned and was as deadly as ever. DOOM is renowned for its sound design, and the Super Shotgun goes off like a miniaturised cannon each time it’s fired, reducing rank and file enemies to bloody vapour in a single shot. The Super Shotgun remains a viable weapon throughout the entire campaign and is ferociously effective against even hell’s hardiest demons.

A key reason why DOOM’s shotgun is such a pleasure to use is the lightning speed of the game’s protagonist; the Doom Slayer is able to rush down enemies in the blink of an eye, getting up close and personal with the demonic hordes, where the Super Shotgun is king.
