7 Sports Which Are Underrepresented In Video Games
2. Archery
Archery is common mechanic among video games. The Elder Scrolls franchise, the new Tomb Raider trilogy, The Legend of Zelda series and Horizon Zero Dawn are just a few examples which integrate bow and arrow combat into an immersive adventure experience.
However, fans of archery as a sport are limited to 2009’s Wii Sports Resort, as well as three entries in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games franchise. These titles are designed for a universal audience and give off the atmosphere of being party games rather than serious archery games. Steam offers more archery titles, but they similarly fail to capture the sport and instead focus more on unique gimmicks to set themselves apart from each other.
Archery is a more complex sport than perceived at first glance. This is down to the choices of different bows available to participants. The archer must select between three different types of bow: a recurve bow, a longbow and a compound bow. There are also crossbows, which traditionally fire bolts instead of arrows.
A game exploring archery in this level of depth would be popular with fans. There is also the option to include real life archers who are professionals in the sport, similarly to how FIFA uses real footballers.
