7 Sports Which Are Underrepresented In Video Games
3. Darts
Darts feels like an easy inclusion to the sports video game genre. However, none of the darts titles on the current video game market really capture the essence of the sport. Many of the titles listed on Steam either required the use of VR, which significantly limits the potential audience, or only offer a single player experience.
While most versions of darts see a pair of players attempting to reduce their score from either 301 or 501 to zero, variations exist for team play, where two teams of players reduce a score from either 701 or 1001 to zero. Video games released for the Nintendo Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 feature competitive gameplay, similar to that usually found in the sport. However, after this era, many of the major darts franchise were halted, such as the PDC World Championship Darts franchise, which had its fourth and final release in 2010.
Other darts titles were released to take advantage of the motion control era of gaming, seen in the late 2000s with the advent of the Wii and peripherals like the Kinect. However, as gaming has become more traditional once again, this style of game has also died down. This has left a sizeable hole in the market for darts titles.
