8 Amazing Video Games Ruined By ONE Terrible Mechanic

6. Crash Cutscenes - Need For Speed Franchise

Whereas most video games on this list had one singular title marred by a mucky mechanic, the Need For Speed franchise gets a special mention because for some reason it didn't listen to the relentless requests to STOP DOING THIS PLEASE, and continued on forcing a particularly loathed feature into a slew of their titles.

I'm speaking of course about "Crash Cinematics" - a leftover from the glory days of the Burnout series - in which every crash would pull focus and be shown in unrelenting and usually very impressive visual detail.

As you watch glass explode into fragments, bumpers twist and bend, and entire frames break like a childhood promise to remain friends with those on your street, it was like wreckage erotica.

Yet there was just one problem:

It's only fun the first time you see it.

When you consider that these "Crash Cams" happen nearly every time you derail yourself, having to watch them again and again quickly became an annoyance that players wished they could skip.

This was compounded by some of the NFS games having super aggressive AI, which would force you off the road any chance they got, meaning you better get accustomed to seeing these over and over on longer and more challenging races.

Who doesn't love being shown their failures in slow, agonising detail?
