8 Amazing Video Games Ruined By ONE Terrible Mechanic

5. Gathering Intel - Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

While it would be easy to moan about Shadow of Mordor's QTE's that were forced into the game, and especially its end "battle" with Sauron, there's another stinky mechanic that while not as disappointing as the final boss, can become a teeth-grinding experience.

I'm speaking of course about the process of gathering Intel from the forces of The Dark Lord. Intel is used to reveal the location, strengths, and more importantly weaknesses of the Uruk captains you're going to need to take down, and so becomes a rather vital piece of the overall puzzle.

However, the implementation of this mechanic falls down quicker than the bloody Worms you're extracting information on, because they die so bloody quickly.

Leaping into a group of enemies with a Worm is usually an immediate fail, as the Worm will either get hit by accident and die, taking his juicy brain with it, or run off leaving you to battle the grunts and missing out on the information.

Worse still, even if you do end up with just you and the Worm left, dominating its mind can become an issue as for some reason the intel button won't appear giving you no option other than to kill it.

Thanks to its finicky nature, many guides on "how to gather intel" cropped up online, speaking volumes of the problems some players were facing with this.
