8 Amazing Video Games Ruined By ONE Terrible Mechanic
1. NO CONTROLLER PROFILES - Megaman Anniversary Collection
So let's set the scene a second.
Imagine you're a balding youth who was raised on dusty old copies of Mega Man games left at your grandparents house, and which disappeared into the "loft of holding" at some point before you could complete any of them.
Frustrated and obviously penniless at that age, you mope through the rest of your teens before finally being hit with a ray of light so powerful it was as if God himself were mooning you.
The Megaman Anniversary Collection for the GameCube. Oh my, what a treat this was! A metric shedload of brilliant MegaMan games all lovingly curated in one teeny-tiny disc. How could I have resisted? Well upon purchasing this saucy little number, I was absolutely crushed when I found it contained one of the worst mechanical changes ever made to a video game.
They had swapped the jump and shoot button around!
All of a sudden, my hardcoded memories of each title felt like they were betraying my actions as I would shoot at a pit while falling into it, and jump into enemies like a bloody idiot. Making matters even worse is the fact that someone along the line decided to take out the ability to switch the button layout! Meaning you were stuck with this abysmal design choice!
Cheers mate! I'll just scoop the rest of my childhood into the bin for you shall I?
