8 Biggest Flaws In Red Dead Redemption 2
4. Key Missions Are Optional And Easy To Miss
1361104There’s so many missions in Red Dead Redemption 2 that you have to complete, and then there are a dozen more that are entirely optional. While this mostly isn’t an issue, it does make you afraid of leaving camp and advancing the plot in case you missed any crucial dialogue or requests from your pals.
The biggest problem with certain missions being optional is that they are crucial to the story, yet appear to be hidden. Collecting debts for Strauss is easy enough, with them being marked on the map as huge dollar signs, but it’s left to chance whether you find the letter from Mary Linton sitting on your bedside table.
Players who aren’t attentive as others could easily fail to notice the letter, robbing them of one of the key components to making Arthur one of gaming’s most tragic protagonists. The same applies to the side quests with Charlotte the widow and Edith Downes, as Rockstar never tell you that high honour is required to experience two of the game's most unforgettable strangers.
Instead of being quests that you can easily miss by accident, the interactions with Mary and other characters crucial to Arthur’s redemption should have been mandatory. That way everyone would get an equally rich experience that isn’t dependent on extreme observation and the patience to finally pick up a letter up stuck between cigarettes and hair pomade.
