8 Brilliant Video Games Made Impossible By Terrible Mechanics
1. Resident Evil 5 - A.I Stupidity
Now take it from me, as a man who has just re-completed a run of this game both solo and online with Kirsten (which you can watch the entire series of over on WCGaming), the A.I here for both the player's partner and for the enemies is absolutely atrocious sometimes.
The enemies bless them have a bit more of an excuse, playing host to an evil and all-consuming virus and all, but the A.I for Sheva especially when you're playing solo is nightmarish. I don't want to speak ill of her as a character as I do think she's one of the more motivated and engaging protagonists of the series, but did they actually have to program her with the brain of one of Barry's Sandwiches?
Your partner will gleefully much up precious ammo without warning and even worse, charge maniacally towards the special enemies such as the chainsaw-wielding brutes or the one-hit-kill bugs and get obliterated over and all, made all the more infuriating as they yell "I Got This!" before being snapped in two.
It's a shame because Resident Evil 5, while being a huge step down from 4, isn't a disaster across the board. It's silly, over the top and when it's running on full steam a brilliant thrill ride - it's just a shame that on solo professional mode, this is quite often impossible thanks to A.I with the life preservation skills of a dog who likes chewing exposed wires.
