8 Challenging Video Game Moments That Made You Sweat

1. The Lion King - Just Can't Wait To Be King

Quite possibly the most unassuming title on this list, few would've predicted that a movie tie-in game would prove challenging enough to leave kids the world over in fits of rage, but the 1994 game based on The Lion King did just that.

Initially released on the SNES and Sega Genesis, The Lion King has a ridiculously high skill barrier for a game marketed towards children. In the "can't wait to be king" section the player is tasked to perform platforming perfection to progress in a level that makes Super Mario The Lost Levels look like a walk in the park.

Apparently the game's unfathomably high difficulty level was actually added intentionally. Developer Louis Castle explained in a 2014 interview with DoubleFineProd that the game's notoriously hard progression was actually requested by Disney to stop people being able to complete the game during a Blockbuster rental period.

For those looking to torture themselves and realise that it wasn't just the fact that you were a kid that stopped you completing the game on initial release, The Lion King was re-released in 2019 and is available for purchase on Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
