8 Disastrous Failures That Killed The Xbox One
1. ...And The Undercooked Results
Having been put to task on churning out Kinect games for several years on the trot, Microsoft finally gave Rare the chance to remind us why its name has been held in such high regard since the '90s.
Sea of Thieves, following numerous delays and uncertainty, finally made its maiden voyage just last week, granting fans access to a gorgeous, very Rareesque adventure and, most importantly, a brand new, exclusive IP for Xbox One.
The swashbuckling adventure looks fantastic, feels great to play and earns top honours as the perfect party game for a group of friends to devour, but is there enough here to satisfy the three-year wait from announcement to release? Sadly, that's a no.
For all its quirks and aforementioned positive qualities, Sea of Thieves can't possibly expect to be deemed anything other than an undercooked, highly-stylized pirate sim brimming with untapped potential. A couple years from now, with several content updates under its belt, sure, it could evolve to become a positive footnote for an otherwise lacklustre platform, but as of right now, a few free sessions courtesy of Xbox Game Pass is all it's really worth.
Sea of Thieves needed more time in the oven. It's just a shame that, given its current situation, Microsoft can't afford that luxury.
