!!MASSIVE SPOILERS FOLLOW!!

I think we all pretty much had the same look on our faces once "that moment" happened in The Last Of Us Part II. A look that was similar to one you'd pull after witnessing your dog be put down with a brick and then also having someone remind you that your grandparents might still be having sex. Yeah, disgust, confusion, and sadness all in one.

This was a moment that split the Last of Us fanbase in two, as here we had lost one of the central driving figures behind the entire experience. For some it was simply too much to get over and tapped out there and then, yet for others they commended Naughty Dog for their decision which seemed to follow the Game Of Thrones mantra of "never become too attached to characters".

By removing Joel from the equation they raised the stakes to unprecedented levels and inspired such a thirst for revenge that it drove the entire rest of the game.

Yet this fury was also an important vehicle for the devs to comment on the nature of revenge itself, as come the close of the game we come to realise that violence is cyclical and to break away completely one has to remove themselves from that mindset. It's a hard concept to convey, and especially through a medium that almost rewards revenge rampages, but they bloody well went for it, even if some of the fanbase felt the concept came in over par.
