8 Exact Moments Video Games Split Their Fanbase In Two
1. When You Tried To Talk - Fallout 4
One of the biggest parts of the Fallout video game experience, aside from dressing like you've eaten nothing but magnets by strapping any bit of metal you can find onto your irradiated body, is being able to walk out into the various Wastelands and play as any type of character you can imagine thanks to the in-depth choice and dialogue systems on offer.
You could play as a suave, smooth-talking lad about town, or a character who uses brains over brawn to solve their problems, or the exact opposite and play as a character who is so stupid that most other NPC's take pity on you when conversing and just give you the stuff to make you go away. Or, as in the case of Fallout 4, you could not do any of the above and just take a gamble on the prescribed dialogue options you were given and just try and make the best of things.
Yes Fallout 4 is the best looking of all the current titles, yes it's gunplay is arguably much the best it's been in the entire franchise and yes Preston Garvey is as annoying as a permanently itchy bum crack, these are things we can all agree on, but the way this game approaches dialogue choices? STINKY.
I don't want to hazard a guess of what my character might say when picking the "sarcastic" option, I want to actually dictate how they go about making and breaking relationships. This one move by Bethesda killed a tonne of fan support and it's not hard to see why. They were telling you in some small part how to play, and that just ain't Rainbow Rhythms my friend.
