8 Greatest Video Game DLCS Of All Time

2. The Last Of Us - Left Behind

The Last of Us Left Behind
Naughty Dog

The Last Of Us has always been a series with a clear focus on immersion through character interaction. While its gameplay is rock solid and the atmosphere quite literally dripping with tension (read: piss) at points, the relationship between Ellie, Joel, and other survivors always makes for memorable moments.

And come the heart sting at the end of the first game, fans were left clamouring for more, and Naughty Dog in an exceptionally shrewd move, obliged. However, it wasn't so much a continuation of the tale but in fact a prequel to the events of the main game. Here, while Joel is injured Ellie must explore the surroundings for medical supplies, and thanks to a time skip, Ellie also explores a mall as she deals with letting go of her close friend Riley.

The interaction between the latter two is exceptionally heart-warming, with the pair playing games, offering support, arguing, and then reconciling in a way that manages to feel well developed despite the short run time. Plus that ending, man that will hit you like a tonne of bricks and better explain why Ellie is so standoffish when she meets Joel.

An exceptional DLC that does what more expansions need to do: deepen the lore, offer new experiences, and have fun doing it.
